Spring Project – Paracord Snake
Follow these instructions and make your own paracord snake!
Materials You’ll Need (per snake)
- Paracord (Two 8-foot lengths) (maybe some extra for a tongue)
- Scotch tape
- Googly eyes
- Hot glue gun/hot glue sticks
- Lighter
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Ruler
Instructions (see video for details/example)
- Choose your two colors of paracord and cut each to 8-foot lengths
- Have an adult use the lighter to fuse/melt the two cords together at one end
- Attach the paracord to a pencil in a loop as shown and tighten
- Attach the paracord to a hook or similar, 12-13 inches from the pencil
- Start with a paracord knot
- Lay the left strand over both cords
- Put the right strand under all cords and through the loop made by the left strand
- Pull tightly on both strands to tighten the cords all the way to the hook
- Take the left strand, pull it under the two middle cords, and pull it through the loop
- Take the right strand, pull it over the two middle cords, and pull it through the loop
- Repeat the pattern of steps 5, 6, and 7, (paracord knot, loop/tie left side under, loop/tie right side over) tightening between each knot
- Keep braiding until 1/2 inch from the pencil
- Remove the pencil and spread out the loop left over
- Cut another 6 inches of paracord, fold it together a few times, tape it together, and put it inside the loop (we’ll use this to bulk up the snake’s head)
- Finish with a series of paracord knots
- Have an adult use the lighter to fuse/melt the ends of the paracord together
- (Optional) Hot glue a small piece of paracord under the snake’s head to make the snake’s tongue
- Attach eyes using a hot glue gun (you may want an adult’s help)
- Enjoy your paracord snake!
