2021 Cadet Fishing Tournament Recap
The Calvinist Cadet Corps held its eighteenth annual fishing tournament on June 5, 2021, at Yankee Springs State Park on Gun Lake in West Michigan. This was the first fishing tournament since the pandemic, and with international borders still closed, our usual Canadian fishermen were conspicuously absent. Even so, over twenty fishermen showed up to compete.
The participants met briefly for instructions and prayer before heading out onto the lake (or lakeshore, for those without boats).
The day was bright and warm, though windy, which made for some tricky boating and fishing. Even so, fishers managed to reel in ninety-nine fish over the course of the morning.
Around noon, participants converged on the park pavilion for a lunch of hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches.
Trophies and prizes were distributed to those who caught the largest or the most fish.
Congratulations to our trophy winners:
First place fish – Mark Warner – 6.90 lbs
Second place fish – Doug Tilma – 1.33 lbs
Third place fish – Scott Moelker – 1.25 lbs
Most fish caught – Doug Tilma – 14 total fish
We thank those who came out to fish and support the Calvinist Cadet Corps. A special “thank you” to our sponsors (Gilmore Car Museum and West Michigan Whitecaps) and our underwriters (Todd Sturrus and Terry Kimber) for their contributions.
We hope to see you at next year’s tournament!
